Supporting mission, evangelism and spirituality

Welcome to the Posbury St Francis Trust

The Posbury St Francis Trust (PSFT) is an Anglican (Church of England) Trust formed from the proceeds of the sale of property at Posbury, near Crediton in Devon. The property was occupied by an Anglican Religious community known as The Franciscan Servants of Jesus and Mary (FSJM). The community devoted itself to a life of prayer and service. It welcomed visitors for retreats and quiet days and was active in the areas of mission, evangelism, and spirituality. Members of FSJM were active in and around the county of Devon and through several ‘extern’ (oblate) members was represented and active further afield.

The area of benefit is the County of Devon co-terminus with the Diocese of Exeter. This applies to members of the public living or working in the area and those engaged in projects which benefit those living in Devon.

The objectives of PSFT are to benefit groups and individuals by:
  1. Supporting missional and evangelistic projects
  2. Supporting spiritual formation and development for eligible groups and individuals
  3. Provision of education and learning consistent with the objects of the Trust
  4. Maintaining the burial ground for deceased members of FSJM at Posbury as a place of peace and tranquillity for members of the public to visit

The PSFT provides benefit through the distribution of grants. Grants are available in two categories: Community and Personal. For further information on grants see Grants Policy here. The Trust has limited funds available for distribution each year and the Trust is unable to support funding for buildings or salaries. The application period is from 1 January to 31 March each year.

The Trust also provides accommodation for retreats, recuperation, or study available for individuals and small groups (up to 5 people) at Porthcurno in Cornwall, as well as the "Tractor Shed" at Posbury for Quiet/Study days and small group meetings.
